The BYB League returned to action this past Saturday evening after a festive Christmas break.
Double-header action began with the undefeaqted Cobras taking on a 1-4 Piranhas team that is still looking for its identity. The game began slow with both teams shaking a bit of holiday rust off. As the the game progressed the Cobras showed why they are the best team in the league so far. The Cobras were led by Max Kimberly who posted a double double with 17pts 11 rebs who played with physicality and aggressionin the paint. Point Guard TJ washington held the ship steady with timely passes and scoring when needed but it was a team effort in getting the win as the Piranhas were determined to show the Cobras they are not pushovers with Jahlunde Wilson Johnston providing 13 pts and Maxwell Lawrence 6pts 8 rebs but it wasnt enough as the Cobras pulled away in the final minutes to win 44-34.
The second game of the evening was a track meet between the surprising Bulldogs agaisnt the defending BYB Champions the Mambas. The Mambas still seem to be in celebration mode as they havent had the same energy in the last few weeks but still remain the team to beat as they can outscore and when interested lock down any team in this league. The Bulldogs sensing a Mambas team not fully engaged took the game to the Mambas from the very beginning with their pace and space. Blake Johnston controlled the tempo of his team with timely baskets and smart decisive play often feeding his wing players Jamie Ashton, Szaine Williams 12pts respectivley, However it was Jordan Marsh who delivered the death blow to a stumbling Mambas team as he continually found himself in the open court for fast breaks for 16pts on 7/13 FG. The Bulldogs keyed in on BYB leading scorer Ajani Carey with double teams and traps often forcing him to give up the ball and force others to score. This tatic worked well as Ajani was held to 16pts 14 rebs on 6/17 shooting. The Bulldogs cruise past the Mambas 65-44.
